I have vivid memories of my mother sitting at her
sewing machine; she directly inspires these pieces.
When I was part of a workshop led by Miriam
Schapiro at Cal-Arts, we had discussions about
how we as women could make art that was
different from art made by men. I thought of my
mother - the endless hours of sewing, her tins of
buttons that I loved to run my fingers through and
knew this was it for me. I began creating pieces
using clothing, buttons, and pins. I still have volumes
to say about clothing; my current work reflects this.
